SAFETY, COMPLIANCE & FLEET MANAGER

CLIENT COMPANY OVERVIEW

A family business now led by its third generation, our client company has grown significantly, providing road repair and patching services across Southern California. They serve utility companies, counties, and cities, operating with a team of around 60 field workers under minimal supervision.

Crews often manage multiple jobs daily which will add to the challenge of creating effective safety programs and training for self-management and reporting. They also have a sizable fleet of approximately 70 trucks, most pulling trailers which will be a significant portion of the safety management program. They have approximately 4 in house mechanics which will also need a program in place to track when trucks need major services (new engine)

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Griffin Groupe is seeking talented safety professionals to join our client company’s team. The SAFETY, COMPLIANCE & FLEET MANAGER will be instrumental in establishing and leading our client company’s safety and risk management practices. This role involves comprehensive management of safety protocols, compliance with OSHA regulations, conducting accident investigations, and fostering a culture of safety across all levels of the organization. The SAFETY, COMPLIANCE & FLEET MANAGER will also be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and service tracking of their fleet of over 70 trucks and trailers, alongside managing the tracking of our equipment maintenance. This position offers a unique opportunity to significantly impact their operational efficiency and safety standards which should be a significant savings and value add to the org.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate for the position is a proactive, detail-oriented individual with a strong background in safety management and risk assessment. This person should have a track record of successfully implementing safety programs and enhancing workplace safety culture. The ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels, coupled with a commitment to driving continuous improvement in safety standards, is essential. Experience in fleet and equipment maintenance oversight, along with a strategic approach to compliance and risk mitigation, will be pivotal to success in this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Develop, implement, and oversee safety programs and protocols to ensure compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Conduct thorough accident investigations and propose actionable measures to prevent future occurrences.
  • Evaluate the feasibility and, if appropriate, establish a safety committee to further enhance workplace safety.
  • Perform regular field visits to assess compliance with safety standards, identifying and documenting any violations or areas of concern.
  • Generate detailed reports based on field visits and safety assessments, offering clear recommendations for improvements.
  • Spearhead initiatives aimed at transforming the company culture into one that prioritizes safety at all levels.
  • Oversee the maintenance schedule of the company's fleet of trucks and trailers, ensuring all vehicles are in optimal condition and comply with safety standards.
  • Implement and manage a tracking system for equipment maintenance and major services (e.g., engine replacements), coordinating closely with the in-house mechanics team to ensure timely and efficient service completion.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • Bachelor’s/ Associate’s degree in Safety Management, Engineering, or related field or 5 years related experience
  • Proven experience in risk management, safety compliance, and accident investigation.
  • Strong familiarity with OSHA regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively collaborating with teams across the organization.
  • Experience in fleet and equipment maintenance management is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in using software and systems for tracking and reporting purposes.
